The Ottawa Water Study/Action Group is excited to be partnering with blueW this fall to get your favourite community businesses to promote tap water!
blueW is a unique community-based program dedicated to promoting municipal tap water as a healthy, easily accessible alternative to purchasing sugary, bottled drinks. blueW provides mapped details on where to find clean, free public and commercial sources to fill your reusable bottle without compelling people to make additional purchases. blueW is a growing network of over 27,000 shops, restaurants and public spaces where people can refill their water bottles with safe, clean tap water – helping people to make healthier choices for hydration, avoid single-use plastic, and to appreciate the hard work of municipal water providers. Excellent news! A motion calling for the elimination of single-use plastics including plastic bottle and styrofoam was passed by Ottawa City Council on June 26, 2019. Watch these videos of former councillor Diane Holmes and OWSAG member Adam Guzman-Poole on their reactions after the vote.
The week before representatives of OWSAG, Water Care Allies of First United Church and Zero Waste Ottawa made presentations in support of the motion at the Envronment Committee. OWSAG also delivered nearly 2000 signatures for the Bottled Water Declaration calling for a phase out of single use plastic bottled water. Thanks to all our supporters who signed and shared the Declaration over the last six months! OWSAG is organizing an action on September 13 with groups like Ecology Ottawa, Extinction Rebellion, Zero Plastic, Greenpeace, the Green Party and Climate Strike to continue educating residents on the impacts of single-use plastics.
