ADVOCATING FOR CLEAN TAP WATER
SINCE 2006
The Ottawa Water Study/Action Group (OWSAG) is a group of concerned residents, scientists and engineers working to stop the sale of single-use plastic bottled water in municipal buildings in Ottawa.
Many of OWSAG’s founding members were water scientists, water managers and water engineers. Their careers have concentrated on studying water, its characteristics and its delivery to people.
We began working together in 2006 and studying safety concerns, costs and economics, resource use in the manufacture of plastic bottles, environmental issues with plastic waste, advertising and public education.
More than a decade later, our group is still going strong. We are more determined than ever to stop the sale of single-use plastic bottled water in Ottawa, unceded Algonquin Territory, starting with City Hall. In June 2019, Ottawa City Council passed a motion to eliminate single-use plastics from municipal buildings and facilities. OWSAG will work to hold Council to account on this motion. We are also adding activities to alert the general public about the environmental problems related to single-use plastics.
Join us as we organize fun activities and creative actions to promote clean, safe tap water - the real healthy choice - for generations and generations to come.
