Environment Committee Unanimously Passes Motion to Eliminate Single-Use Plastics
Great breaking news! A motion calling for the elimination of single-use plastics including plastic bottle and styrofoam was passed unanimously by the Ottawa City Council Environmental committee on June 18, 2019.
Representatives of OWSAG, Water Care Allies of First United Church and Zero Waste Ottawa made presentations in support of the motion. OWSAG also delivered nearly 2000 signatures for the Bottled Water Declaration calling for a phase out of single use plastic bottled water. Thanks to all our supporters who signed and shared the Declaration over the last six months!
The motion will come up for a vote at the full meeting of Ottawa City Council on Wednesday June 26 at 10 am.

(b) that in the future, the sale of all single-use plastic bottles be eliminated from Municipal buildings and;
(c) that more funding be allocated to promote Ottawa’s excellent municipal tap water.
