By Eric Schiller Wow! Together with the Glebe Community Association and TWIG, the Glebe Collegiate student group, OWSAG was present at the GGGS promoting Ottawa’s excellent municipal tap water. We were collecting signatures for our Water Declaration. This has now become a petition to send to Ottawa City Councillors as they debate a motion to promote their own excellent water and stop the sale of single-use plastic water bottles in municipal buildings. Watch this short video clip of our #ZeroWaste info table! Soon we had such a long lineup to sign our petition that we had to open up four different signing places. We collected 600 new signatures. We now have well over 1000 signatures and the number keeps growing. We will present these petitions to Ottawa City Council on June 18, 2019. If you haven't signed the Bottled Water Declaration, be sure to sign today!
Meanwhile around the corner, a company was giving away free plastic bottles of water. By the end of the garage sale they still had lots pf bottles left over. We are starting to win on this – and the planet will benefit if we just keep up the pressure. Photos by Jennifer Humphries (Glebe Community Association) and Eric Schiller
