blueW is a unique community-based program dedicated to promoting municipal tap water as a healthy, easily accessible alternative to purchasing sugary, bottled drinks. blueW provides mapped details on where to find clean, free public and commercial sources to fill your reusable bottle without compelling people to make additional purchases.
Community participation is the most important part of blueW. By helping in your neighbourhood to sign up new blueW refill locations you help reduce plastic bottle waste, support the hard work of local municipal water suppliers, make water more accessible to the public, raise awareness about water issues, and help your community achieve its sustainability goals. We invite you to join OWSAG in spreading this network across Ottawa! Learn more here. We were thrilled to take part in the launch of Maude Barlow's new book, Whose Water Is It Anyway? in Ottawa on Monday, September 16, 2019. This is a timely and important book about how communities are protecting water through the Blue Communities project. Dr. Eric Schiller, co-founder of OWSAG, spoke about OWSAG's work on bottled water and single-use plastics. Watch his talk here below and see other short video clips of Maude Barlow and Eric Schiller on Facebook here. On September 13, we worked with our friends at Extinction Rebellion Ottawa, Future Rising Ottawa, The Council of Canadians, Angela Keller-Herzog, Ecology Ottawa and Ottawa Raging Grannies to draw attention to the plastics and water crises and call on government leaders to act now. Below is a couple videos of fun street theatre and youth Mia Beijier from Future Rising Ottawa. Check out more videos on our Facebook page or YouTube channel.
